Terry Pratchett was just diagnosed with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer's.

*sad*

He's only 59.

nebulia out.

No, I didn't really mean to mourn him. I simply thought that...it will be sad to see such a brilliant mind go in such a way. Like...that Alzheimer's has to happen to him, and not some dumb druggie or something.

And I have always tended to think of Alzheimer's as the end-all-be-all of diseases. Despite our advance knowledge, we still know so little about the brain, and Alzheimer's and other diseases like it...they destroy the brain, you know? It makes me sad to know that someday such an awesome brain will be destroyed. Like [livejournal.com profile] shiegra said, some people should be immortal. Kind of like the way Einstein's brain was stolen and cut up into little pieces. Even though people don't cause Alzheimer's, such a destruction of a brilliant mind is...disrespectful, I guess.

People getting sick kind of makes me sad, that's all. Especially if they're as cool as Pratchett.

Yeah, I'm totally overreacting. I've just seen half a dozen of these and it's getting annoying because, like he says, it isn't destroyed yet. It would be nice if he could be immortal, but instead we should enjoy his remaining time.

And I have his latest book! Making Money!
