connection
Nov. 17th, 2007 10:04 pmToday I checked out from Target at the check-out stand of a deaf man.
I don't generally like people--I'm not really a misanthrope, I just am not exceedingly fond of them. But...I don't know. This guy, who really could not hear at all, was communicating with everyone different from him, with me. We kept thumbs-upping each other.
I don't think it was anything special to him, probably. But communicating with him despite the odds...connecting with someone totally anonymous, who I couldn't speak to, that just made me feel glad inside. I love when I connect to someone like that. Even though people generally bother me, that kind of anonymous connection is always a bright spot in my day, in my life. For some reason, the fact that we don't need language to communicate warms me.
nebulia out.
